Checklist for Malaysians travelling from Malaysia to New Zealand

1. Proof of Vaccination

Obtain a digital vaccine certificate or another form of electronic or paper document from a government health authority or approval authority confirming you have had a full COVID-19 vaccine course, must include:

  • your name
  • the name of the vaccine or vaccines you received
  • the name of the agency that administered them
  • the name of the place where you received them
  • the date of each dose or the date when a primary vaccination course was completed.

Unvaccinated children aged 16 years and under can enter New Zealand without managed isolation and quarantine if they are travelling alone or with parents or guardians who meet the vaccination requirements for entry without MIQ.

2. Pass Application

  • All travellers must complete the traveller declaration (Nau Mai Rā) before travelling to New Zealand. You will be asked to provide evidence that you have completed the declaration when you check-in at the airport, and by Customs when you arrive in New Zealand. It can be either electronic or paper format.

  • If you need a My Vaccine Pass and you have had your COVID-19 vaccination overseas. Apply here. Do note that it may take 2 weeks to process My Vaccine Pass if you were vaccinated outside New Zealand.

3. Visa Application

You must request a visa (NZeTA) before you travel. Apply here:

4. Insurance

As per a specific agreement with New Zealand, citizens of some countries are allowed to apply for a working holiday visa. To apply for this visa, having a travel insurance plan is mandatory.

5. Pre Departure Test

A PCR/RT-PCR test ā€” your swab must be taken and your results returned no more than 48 hours before the first international leg of your journey to New Zealand. ; OR

A supervised rapid antigen test (RAT) ā€” your swab must be taken and your results returned no more than 24 hours before your journey. ; OR

A supervised loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) test ā€” your swab must be taken and your results returned no more than 24 hours before your journey. 

All pre-departure tests confirm a negative result and contain written confirmation of the following information for travel clearance:  

  • travellerā€™s full name
  • travellerā€™s date of birth or passport number.
  • the type of test (PCR, RAT or LAMP)
  • date and time the test was conducted (please note that PCR tests must be taken no more than 48 hours prior to departure, RAT or LAMP tests must be taken no more than 24 hours prior to departure)
  • the test result – confirmed that it was negative.

If you had a PCR test:

  • the name of the testing lab if you had a RAT or LAMP:
  • either the name of the health professional that supervised the test, including either a letterhead or stamp confirming the supervisorā€™s name, occupation and employer or the name of the pharmacy, laboratory, healthcare entity, telehealth service, community-based or airport-based testing station that supervised the test. Evidence may be in paper or digital form. Evidence must be in English or accompanied by a certified translation into English.

6. Download NZ Covid Tracer App

7. On Arrival RAT Test Travellers entering New Zealand must take 2 rapid antigen tests (RAT) after they arrive. Travellers will be given a pack of RAT at the airport. Take 2 tests on:-

  • Day 1 on arrival day
  • Day 5/6



You will receive an email from the New Zealand Ministry of Health after you complete your traveller declaration. Follow the instructions in the email and report your results using the link in the email.
